เมื่อวันที่ 16 มีนาคม 2552 ดร. สุรินทร์ พิศสุวรรณ เลขาธิการอาเซียน พร้อมด้วย ศาสตราจารย์นายแพทย์ ปิยะสกล สกลสัตยาทร อธิการบดี มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล และ อธิการบดี ม. Kyushu ประเทศญี่ปุ่น ให้เกียรติร่วมเปิดโครงการ ASEAN in Today’s World
วิทยาลัยนานาชาติ ม.มหิดล ร่วมกับ ม. Kyushu ประเทศญี่ปุ่น จัดงาน ASEAN in Today’s World ระหว่างวันที่ 12 มีนาคม – 2 เมษายน 2552 ณ มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล ศาลายา โดยร่วมงาน ณ ห้องทวีวัฒนา ศูนย์ปฏิบัติการโรงแรมศาลายาพาวิเลียน วิทยาลัยนานาชาติ มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล
นอกจากนั้น จะมีการมอบทุน Mahidol Young ASEAN Scholarship แก่นักศึกษาในภูมิภาคเอเชียที่เข้าร่วมโครงการ จำนวน 20 คน
โครงการ ASEAN in Today’s World นี้ จัดการเรียนการสอนแก่นักศึกษา จำนวน 28 คน เป็นเวลา 3 สัปดาห์ เพื่อแลกเปลี่ยนประสบการณ์การเรียนที่เกี่ยวข้องกับทวีปเอเชีย การศึกษาด้านภาษาและวัฒนธรรมในภูมิภาคเอเชีย เช่น ภาษาไทย ญี่ปุ่น เวียดนาม และอินโดนีเซีย และเพลิดเพลินไปกับกิจกรรมทัศนศึกษาในสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวที่น่าสนใจของประเทศไทย เช่น เกาะเสม็ด อยุธยา ตลาดน้ำอัมพวา สถานที่สำคัญๆ บริเวณเกาะรัตนโกสินทร์ เป็นต้น
Mahidol University and Kyushu University, Japan, in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat, are jointly conducting an international program, “ASEAN in Today’s World 2009,” for undergraduate and graduate students from around the world. Mahidol University International College is sponsoring and hosting the event, which will begin on March 12, 2009.
The Presidents of Mahidol and Kyushu Universities will welcome the participants and distinguished guests with an opening ceremony on March 16, at which Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, Secretary General of ASEAN, will deliver the keynote address.
The three-week program will feature ASEAN Studies courses, Asian languages and cultures as well as a number of field trips, all of which will enable participants to broaden their understanding of ASEAN, develop their proficiency in languages and explore the nuances of different cultures.
